SPARKLE & SHINE

sweet sea

sweet sea

I wanted to give you all a little taste of some of the petite treats I will be selling in my shop along with my stationery. These little "sweet sea" earrings will be making an appearance! I made these for my mom for Christmas and I loved them so much I have decided to make some more...They will also be in a few other colours such as "sweet rouge" and "sweet violet". They're simple, just the way I like it, and hope you will too!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

cards

Happy holidays to all my lovely readers! Wow, what a month this has been! Launching this blog right before the holiday season has been tough. I was busy, busy designing holiday cards, (as you can see a little taste of them above) and also my Valentine's Day stationery is at the printers as I type...I can't wait to show you! The next few weeks are going to be jam packed with photo shoots, (gotta make my cards look pretty for my shop!) getting all my matching envelopes and packaging done, and finishing up my business plan. Thanks for all your patience and encouragement over the past month, it has truly helped! Now I'm off to celebrate the day with my family...merry ho ho ho!

CANDY AT CHRISTMAS

chocolate 2

chocolate

As I was shopping around the other day, I popped into aerie to buy some festive little goodies. The bonus was that I got a bar of chocolate as a free gift! The chocolate was good, but it was the packaging that I was excited about! OH the polka dots and the gold foiling...and fling font!

WHAT THE...

kiss off

Ok, so I know this card is a little mean, but how genius is it too? Like a calling card in reverse! Gramkin Paper Studio specializes in what they call "kiss-off cards". It definitely made me laugh...

With the holidays fast approaching and me slowly finishing my Christmas shopping, I am now starting to think of packaging! Oh how I love making tags and really getting creative with the wrapping. I've made a few gifts this year myself and really want them to stand out amongst the piles of red and green wrapped boxes. I'm thinking really pretty coloured tags, maybe a royal blue or purple, something a little less expected, mixed with white lace or ribbons and kraft paper. Here are some of my inspirations from fellow bloggers, and of course Martha Stewart! Be sure, I will definitely post my creations when they're all finished too!

CARDS FOR CELEBRATION

cards4

cards1

They have finally arrived! I just received my letter pressed business cards and they look so pretty. They are simple and clean {just how short & sweet is supposed to be} with my logo and blog. It's kind of like a calling card, people can visit my site and get in touch with me in various ways. Plus it's all about word of mouth and in this case, blog...which is just how I like it. I can't wait to start giving them out and get my Etsy shop up!

P.S. Sorry about the delay in blog posts this week, with the holidays creeping up and freelance work getting crazy it's been a whirlwind of a week! xoxo

TYPE TIDBIT

type 4

Lately I have been searching and searching for some cool type treatments for a freelance project I am designing. {alas, it does not involve too much stationery} But I am determined to come up with something cool! I always am searching through books at Chapters to sketch out some ideas, and on my last excursion there on the weekend, I came across the coolest new book! 1000 Type Treatments solved my slump. Pages and pages of inspiration! The neatest thing? In the back there is a reference guide to what fonts were used where. Just what I was looking for!
I love type.

I LOVE this idea from 100 layer cake, and it looks so easy! DIY small booklets with embroidery & a needle. I am definitely keeping this is in the archive of ideas. See the whole idea here.

TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD

Photobucket

I needed a little boost to get me in the festive spirit. Today I put up my Christmas tree, her name is Bella! {I name everything it seems...} I know this has nothing to do with paper, but I can't help but get excited and inspired for the holiday season after the tree is up and the lights are lit!

DECK THE HALLS

thank you

I spotted Rifle Paper Co. on Erin Ever After today and had to post some of my favourites from the site! Just in time for the holidays, the illustrated cards are fantastic. Something I also love is the mix of dark greens and yellows, with accents of butcher/kraft paper. That is one of my all time favourite papers to use for holiday things. It just gives things that handmade look! You will definitely see it accented with my stationery!

font of the day: ELOQUENT

eloquent2

I'm such a sucker for girly fonts. Anything with a swirl or swoosh and I am hooked. With the holidays just around the corner, I find myself attracted more towards the festive fonts. Or even a nice big ornate drop cap. Today I was drooling over on Veer's fonts, Eloquent made me smile!

SNEAK PEAK

Photobucket

I am so excited to talk about my holiday cards, but since they haven't launched yet, I can only give you a sneak peak! A few finishing touches to add in the next few weeks and they will be ready to be mailed to friends & family, then on sale at Etsy! My inspiration for the design of these cards will be coming soon as well.

HUMAN NATURE

I am determined to make my home office/creative space as eco-friendly as possible. While picking up a few things at Pistachio a while ago, I spotted the coolest invention: a staple-free stapler! A step in the right direction, I picked up one from the company Made by Humans. Plus it's smaller than a regular stapler, which fits perfectly into my small space!

This artist & illustrator who has lived in such places as Long Beach, Cali, Italy, San Fran & now is located in New York definitely has a cool style. I love ornate illustrations! {mainly because I may not have the patience to finish a piece myself} He also does quite a few book covers for Chronicle Books: BONUS!

IT'S OFFICIAL!

Photobucket

I want to say a big hello to everyone!
Welcome to the central site for Short & Sweet paperie. As a designer, I find myself always veering towards my love of handmade paper goods, typography and colour. So I thought, why not combine them and share it with you? My stationery consists of offset printing, custom stamping, die cuts and more! Look for my etsy shop starting early 2010.

P.S. This blog is also going to feature some great people in the industry, my favourite fonts and inspiration galore! I hope you enjoy.
